RE: Hankook tires

Got a price for 6 225/70R/19.5 tires out the door for $1698.82. My question is these are the AH11's and I don't much about them. Does anybody know or use this tire and is this a good price?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.... I will never understand why people will spend 1000's of dollars on there coach, sat dishes, and all kinds of things to better your rv, but want to skimp and go cheap on the most important piece of equipment you have on the coach. I just do not know the reasoning behind it! There is nothing wrong with these tires. They are OEM on the Ford Edge and other models. Ford (I am sure Hankook was the cheapest bidder) but that being said they are not going to pen themselves to lawsuits on a less than quality tire. I suggest you go back to one my earlier pots and check out their website. These tire are winning off-road races-more punishment than your rig will ever take!

RE: problems with my tango trailer

My post was not really to "dis" tango someone asked what I thought about them. I was just being honest. Sorry if I stepped on toes. It isn't the dealers issue. My trailer had to be brought down to Tango to get worked on and they still didn't fix the issue. Or lets say they didn't finish what they were suppose to do and still drove it back to the dealer incomplete. I just figured since it had to be taken back to Tango's warehouse to be worked on that it would of been fixed right. NOT patched or mended or covered up to hide things. THAT's all. I've been looking at the Tango for over a year and I haven't seen "documents" about Tango saying they are the best. I've seen that they are a great start up company. But that still doesn't prove anything. There are more then 10 issues with the trailer.... Again I'm sorry for stepping on anyones toes. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE TRAILER???

RE: Test towed a TT today, to the scales, exceeded rear GAWR :(

So, I was looking at some more TTs today, and returned to a place my wife and I previously saw one we really liked. It was bigger than we really should be looking at, but my wife and I really loved it. The dealer offered to install a brake controller for only $150 for us, and hook up the trailer for a test drive. I told him if I testdrive, I want him to show me some scales. He hooked it up, including a battery and 2 full 30# LP tanks. As we were riding, he said he thought the WD hitch could ues a small adjustment, to put just a bit more weight on the front axle. Anyway, when we got to the scales, the rear axle came in at about 4400 pounds. My GAWR rear is 4128. Our TV was about as loaded as we would be when going on a real trip, but the TT had no cargo. I figured that even if the WD hitch had been adjusted, it would not take off like 500+ pounds I needed, so we did not get the TT. Boy are my wife and I disappointed :( I guess we did the right thing though. /cry On another note, I was looking more into my TV, and am doubting I have tow capacity I thought I had. Someone on these forums mentioned in my first thread that an Expedition with the heavier towing package should have come with a 7-pin connector on the hitch. I had only 4 pins. I'm afraid I found some Ford literature to back up that claim. Assuming this is correct, my tow rating just went down like 2000 pounds, as well as my GCWR. I can't find much on the 06 Expedition, but the 08 Expedition towing guide says that the advantages of the trailer towing package are: 7 pin connector (which I have now) upgraded radiator upgraded tranny cooler (says "7-channel standard; 11-channel with 536 option package.") It says nothing of stuctural differences, brakes, suspension, etc. So, it appears that the extra towing capacity of the towing package is all from extra cooling of the engine and tranny. I am tempted to exceed those lower ratings if that is the case, since I have temp gauges for both anyway. *flame suit on* Either that, or see if I can return my TV to the dealer (had it for about 2 weeks, was verbally assured I was getting the larger tow rating) Either way, I'm gonna call Ford Monday when they open, so I can give them my VIN number and see for sure what the heck my tow rating is. When I was looking at tow vehicles, it amazed me how many Ford Salespeople thought that with the hitch and the 4 pin the connector that the Expedition had the "tow package". Most car sales people know nothing about the products they sell, at least that is my experience.

RE: Are there any American made trailer tires?

I will buy an American product each and every time I can. Sure I have lots of foreign made stuff around the house (TVs, clothes, etc.), but that's unavoidable. It has nothing to do with being a racist, it has everything to do with trying to help my fellow Americans keep their jobs. I wonder exactly whose head is in the sand?:h Exactly, but with very, very few exceptions you really don't have a choice. Here are your choices-it's not a long list- http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/09/19/made-in-the-u-s-a-what-products-are-still-made-in-america/ (Even then, this list is deceiving if you read the entire article).

RE: Are there any American made trailer tires?

Ran Carlisle for three years....no problems. Currently running Greenball Transmasters made in China...no problems. In my tire size the only tires that are available are made in China.

Peterson Automotive Museum

Just wanted to let everyone know that the above Museum in Los Angeles has a exhibit currently running that features old trailers and RVs from the 30s and 40s. The feature runs through February. I was there today (Labor Day) and really enjoyed it along with the rest of the museum. Please note admission is $10.00 (ask about Auto Club discounts, etc.) for adults and you will have to pay $8.00 for parking as on-street parking is hard to get. THERE IS NOT ANY PARKING FOR RV'S at the museum. You would have to try to find a place on the street.

RE: Hankook tires

1. The name does not exactly inspire confidence. 2. I would be very leery of any chinese tires, due diligence, and all that. 3. Ford could not do any worse than the Firestones of a few years back. 4. Sully, hang in there. Al C Instead of just voicing items which have no basis in facts-maybe you should educate yourself a little: http://www.hankooktireusa.com/ Include the press release sections about how the above tires are winning off-road events. More abuse than your RV will ever take......

RE: WD-40 on Tires

It doesn't matter. By the time ANY PRODUCT got around to harming your tires you would be way past the suggested replacement interval of three to five years!

RE: 1985 Pace Arrow

CKNSLS I agree with issalleasy on all points. If you are going to do all of the house upkeep and most of the chassis stuff (but not like the brakes, internal engine and transmission issues) you should be fine if it checks out OK. Number on mistake I see is people OVER PAY for old MH's. The tires are a plus but I say if you are going to put it over the road you will drop another $3K on the rig before you know it. You have great access to the carb and you can work on it rain or shine. Making sure it is dry which may be hard to tell if it does not rain often in your location. Most likely if not done in the past 10 years are going to need to recore the radiator and if you do that then replace the water pump while in the nose and of course replace all rubber under the hood. All this stuff may have to be done once if you keep it 4-5 years. If you are going to be on ANY grades flush out the old brake fluid if the brake shoes/pads are OK. If drum brakes check out wheel cylinders conditions and rebuild if ANY sign of brake fluid is leaking. Natually you are going to change the coolant, engine oil and transmission fluid if records do not support when it was done the last time. 13 months ago we bought a 32' 1993 class A 454 P30 with 91K miles and the house needed some attention like resealing roof openings (nothing we could not do in the driveway) and we recored the radiator to be on the safe side vs fixing the few leaking weak spots. It needed the exhaust manifold leaks fixed and the alternator rebuilt (preferred over replacement do to mounting holes. The part houses are not so hot with get it right the first time for 20 year old motor homes. :) If you get it DO NOT spend any money beyond roof work, fluid changes at first. At that age you have to be prepared to ditch it if major issues (motor, transmission, frig, generator) start showing up over and over. Run around locally in it for a couple months and get a couple 1000 miles on it and the BUGS will start to appear. At 800 miles per year may mean you will see a lot of small things pop up quickly. If it has been in a VERY dry climate that should help limit rusting type issues. I would expect issues with some of the seals. I would replace the both the inline filter near the tank and the one at the carb inlet first thing ($20). We ran ours 70 MPH as much as possible just to push it buttons. That lead to issues coming to the surface faster. We did WOT take offs often with a lot of Sea Foam ran through the fuel tank. Best of luck. The coach is not too old if you now what you are getting into. You can jump up 10 years newer for not a lot more money and loss the carb and most likely drum brakes. Both will eat another $5K over the first couple years I expect but with a 1995 you have a better chance of "driving" your investment out of the MH. I am guessing about $4K should buy the MH but know nothing of the value of the rv camping spot. If you are looking for something to use locally and not in the mountains or over the road then you just fix things as they break and keep down your capital outlay but you are not new to the forum so you already know most of the points I have tried to raise. :) This is a good post with lots of info. Thanks for the time-I appreciate it.

1985 Pace Arrow

I am looking at class A's and have found a 1985 Pace Arrow 27 foot "Class A". It belong to a couple in their 80s. It only has 18,303 miles on it. I know it does have new tires they bought three years ago. The lady said they coat the roof every two years. That about all I know. There is a camp spot included in Las Vegas with the selling price. I am just interested in your comments on the coach. Too old or not?

RE: 1995 SouthWinds....any thoughts????

A local dealer has a 28 foot - 1995 SouthWinds class A. It's very clean with the Chevy 454 motor in it. They are asking 18,995.00 for it. It has 65K on it. Would I have a lot of trouble with buying something used this old? It is quite obvious it was stored indoors. I am looking for comments. Thanks in advance. Others will say its too short. If its what trips you fine, but the price is way to high. should be around 12-13 max. cheers Coming out of a 21 foot travel trailer. The length is fine. THANK YOU!

RE: Keep On Trying To Sell

Selling a house on your own in this marketplace is very, very difficult. Two suggestions - spend the money on a PROFESSIONAL APPRAISAL. You may think you know what your house is worth. But in this market you may be chasing the prices downward. Hire a "Help-U-Sell" type of outfit and pay the extra to have your house listed on the "Multiple Listing Service". State on the MLS you will pay a Realtor a 3% commission for a buyer. If your serious about going full time and selling your house the above suggestions will get you a lot more activity.

RE: Parking on the street to live.

I think Hooverville is on the way, and it will take something like that to bring thing back into line. Know one with a average income should be living in a house of 2500 to 3000 sq. that they can't make payments on and try to tell me that it is someone else fault. I'm not going to buy that for a minute. All of these people bought houses they couldn't afford in the first place. If they end up living in an RV it's their own fault. Start over! Either relocate, further your education, etc. That's what is wrong in this world today...no personal accountability.

RE: Honda's Civic is now U.S. best selling vehicle

Just confirms my thoughts that too many buy pickups/SUVs/etc as a fashion statement, than needing one. If a Civic will do, then why did they buy a pickup/SUV? Maybe some sanity will come back to Pickup/SUV ownership and the pricing that goes with that sanity. I agree with you Ben in regards that too many buy/have bought pickups/SUVs as a fashion statement, rather than needing one. My own personal theory is that many over the years, particularly since the availability of a wide range of full size, V8 cars have diminished significantly over the years , many have bought V8 Pickups and Suv's as a alternate substitution. I believe that is one reason for the fact that the full size pickup, up to very recently has been the most popular vehicle in sales. Pickups, unlike the pickups of yore that have more comfort and luxury options available then many cars....and of course that V8 engine. Now I know some might respond and say Chrysler has the 300c, Dodge the magnum, Chevy the Impala SS, etc.....all with V8's. While that is true, the numbers sold of these V8 cars, pales in comparison with the way it was back in the '50's, 60's and early '70's....when the V8, full size car reigned supreme and the pickup...was just a vehicle, mostly for the farm, ranch or commercial use. I think that now fuel prices are very high, many people have had to look at their vehicle buying priorities....ie as the car show guy says....do I need a V8 pickup/Suv......no....do I want a V8 Pickup/SUV.....yes.....can I afford a V8 Pickup/SUV.....so off to the dealer and buy a Civic which apparently fills the bill for most people, while saving considerably on the gas budget. Having said that, there are a # of people who do need a diesel-gas V8 (or Cummins) Pickup/SUV that tow with it, have very large families. But then they do need it. Also, I know the appeal of having a healthy V8....having had more than a few of small block chevy V8's and small block Ford V8's in my vehicles of the past. Maybe that's just 'uncommon' sense though.:) Les A definite trend I have noticed are large pickup trucks being advertised by dealers in their used car section. A local Ford dealer has the following today: 04- F250 4x4 diesel LIFTED with custom wheels (less than 15K miles) offroad tires etc., another - 06 F250 diesel LIFTED with MOTO (very expensive) wheels, 37" tires, and one more - '06 F250 diesel LIFTED custom wheels, etc. I am looking at pictures and these are all very nice rigs that have never seen any freight in their bed. One really wouldn't need to lift a truck for most commercial use purposes. I am in a pretty high-end area of So. Cal and I bet is these were all "fashion statement" vehicles. Now that diesel is $5.00 plus bucks a gallon my bet is they are being traded in more something that is a lot smaller. Of course, the dealer still has "pie in the sky" prices on them. What else is new......

RE: Giant RV show in Pomona Fairplex

I wouldn't expect many "real" bargains... ... Especially when the event is sponsored by only one "giant" rv dealer. Where's the "real" competition in a showing such as that? They are carrying RVs that are dinosaurs. They have class "C" that get 8mpg (gasoline) they are still trying to sell at a high price. I looked at a new Skyline TT floorplan that I really liked. The class "A" area was like a ghost town. Pretty high end rigs just sitting there with no lookers. This was Saturday morning about 11 a.m. I am playing a "wait and see" with these gas prices before upgrading TT and tow vehicle.... Talk about wasted energy moving these rigs over to Pomona and back to where they came from!
